On April 21st I wrote what framedsheep.com was supposed to be about. Today, less than a week since, I’ve changed my mind.
I’ve changed my mind, because I feel that my explanation page and to some extent, the contents of this blog have been a little too wishy-washy. Blurred beyond recognition. I need to do something about this fuzzy haze.
Beyond being a personal or professional platform for documenting my thoughts and observations, as well as pushing out my opinions, I do believe that I have to add something of genuine value in these postings.
They have to amount to something.
Who am I serving with these pages?
My own vanity? I hope not, yet the funny feeling is that perhaps I am or have been. Acknowledging that I certainly don’t know everything in equal depth is fair and fine. Specifying what I do know is perhaps a better path to take in being able to focus.
So as I see things now, the focus of this blog is going to primarily focus on a mixture of subjects or topics, some relating to what’s happening in the worlds of technology, marketing, advertising and the glue that seems to link, pull or hold them all together.
I know something about the above, so I should stick with the above. Whilst I may consider myself to know quite a bit, I do also know, that it is only a niche that I might be able to squeeze myself in to and then contribute towards.
I’ll also add that I don’t or would prefer not to do this all on my own. The reason for this is simple. Diversity of thoughts and approaches is necessary for a rich and full coverage or scope on the above topics. I don’t crave fame, I would like a little fortune though. I’d rather be part of an intelligent, balanced and well reasoned resource for a broad range of audiences to learn, share and earn from what can be found here.
On another note, I think that it might be interesting or even useful to explain what a “framedsheep” is.
The origins of the word “framedsheep” come from a combination of my imagination and from influences beyond my imagination. The original tagline that I came up with, almost immediately after coining this term was - “framed for a crime he never committed” - which seemed funny to me at the time. Why?
The original idea for framedsheep was a story. A story about a sheep on a farm that did not conform and because of his non-conformity, attracted the stares and frowns of others. Above and beyond this, the framedsheep seemed to work himself in to situations where he would take the brunt or be seen as the prime suspects in any of the mishaps or strange events on the farm which he shared as a home with other animals.
Sounds a bit like Animal Farm [George Orwell] meets The Trial [Franz Kafka] - well - I thought so. Both of these books address matters of satire in one or another way. Bureaucracy, narrow mindedness, absolute power, fear and the ridiculous nature of rules. Woven together, you meet the framedsheep. On trial and in the farm.
What distinguishes the framedsheep is his almost childlike innocence and absolute unawareness of the plots of others and his unwitting role in the complication or undoing of a series of diabolical plans to either upset the power balance or social fabric of the farm, by those ambitious animals that want to get ahead in the world. His actions cannot be blamed as his intentions are for the greater good of all, quite often working against the best or better for himself, yet there is no taint of feeling unfulfilled.
Writing this down now, seems to me at least to be something of a worthy character and setting with a lot of possibilities for the development of characters and episodes or stories around the comings and goings on and around the farm.
Do I see myself as the framedsheep? To be very honest, I don’t know. In one way, I sincerely hope not. To my knowledge, I’ve committed very little in the way of crime. Compared to a hard line criminal, I am a bore. I suppose that most people are too.
Nevertheless, we might want to see the original intention of this character as an allegory towards describing the nature of the content to be found on this blog. I feel that somehow this has the potential, with time, effort, thought and modification to become something worthy of value to and for others. In this regard, heretics and not haters are more than welcome to suggest topics and write postings that challenge or questions the status quo, with personal insights, comments and recommendations that have the aspiration towards improvement and innovation in the fields of marketing, technology and human interaction.
It is not about putting on a show to be fashionably different for the sake of being so. There are plenty of gutter snipes out there in the world already. They’re welcome here, as much as anyone else is, however their role here would preferably be limited to comments and if they managed to convince me and hopefully later, others, then they’d be welcome to post.
Now we come to the end of the revised “Why?” page. It is a work in progress and as ever.
“It’s all BETA baby!”
Yours,
Lyndon
